Folkestone Youth Project

The Project

About The Shed Urban Wilderness

The project is based on mutual respect and kindness, with a strong focus on environmental issues. We are developing our outside space mainly using items that were originally intended for landfill, reducing environmental impact and creating a positive and welcoming community space out of a previously disused plot of land on Bradstone Avenue in Folkestone, Kent.

We run numerous projects for local youth and the wider community, including music production workshops, photography and art workshops and exhibitions, and community mornings.

We’ve been providing support to young people in the local area since 2006. For more information on the history of The Shed, please visit our History page.

Our Team

Ruth

Mum, wife, dog owner, chicken keeper, loves nature and the countryside.

Joined the project at its start in 2006 as a part time youth worker and has managed the project full time since 2013. Has project managed the relocation and refurbishment of the project twice, hoping never to do it again!

Sandra

Queen of job hunting, turned up once for her shift just after breaking her foot! Got sent home!

Always got an eye out for job opportunities for young people and loves playing Traffic Jam and cutting back the brambles.

El

‘Grew up’ at the Shed and then joined the team to provide all things Music Technology. A talented recording artist himself, El can take young people through the whole song/music writing process to recording in our studio.

Juggles youth work with doing a master’s degree in creative Writing.

Lucy

Our newest flexi staff member, loves sports.

Forrest

The Shed pup. After the loss of our beloved Shed Dog Barkley, Forrest is helping to mend our broken hearts.

Tries to eat everything onsite and always grubby!

Barkley The Shed Dog

Our greatly missed ‘Shed dog’ went from puppyhood to old age attending the project. A great favourite with the young people and Ruth’s constant companion.

Will always be the Shed Dog.
